WEST OF ENGLAND AREA
Last Sunday (9th March) the band travelled
to the Riviera Centre in Torquay to compete in the West Of England Regional
Championships. After working very hard to perfect the Area Second Section
testpiece, Chaucer's Tunes, unfortunately the band's performance on the day did
not find favor with adjudicators Mike Kilroy and Steve Pritchard-Jones and was
placed a very disappointing 12th. Results can be found here: www.4barsrest.com
However, the band are always looking forward and are determined to return to their previous run of excellent contest results by competing at the West Of England Bandsman's Festival at Bugle in June. Before this, they have an engagement at Tywardreath Church to complete and a new programme of music to learn before the busy Summer season begins! We hope to see you at an engagement soon!
FANTASTIC START TO
The band are currently working hard to prepare the testpiece, Chaucer's Tunes, by Michael Ball for the West of England Regional Finals next month. We are pleased to announce a handful of new signings already this year! We have welcomed Kevin Brush on Bb Bass, Duncan Armitage on Eb Bass, young talent Lia Teague on 3rd Cornet, Jenna Congdon on 2nd Baritone and Christine Knight on Soprano. The band are delighted to have strengthened their ranks and are looking forward to a busy, successful 2014!
The band had a great day at the CBBA Contest on October 12th, held at Falmouth Methodist Church. After a solid performance of the chosen testpiece Purcell Variations, the band were placed third. Our congratulations go to the winning band, St. Austell.
Bugle Silver Band now look forward to their festive engagements to finish the year. We are now also taking bookings for 2014; contact our engagement secretary, Jacky Smith for further details.
FINAL CONTEST OF
Over the last few weeks, the band have been busy preparing their choice of testpiece, Purcell Variations, to compete in the Second Section of the CBBA contest on 12th October. This has been a fantastic piece to rehearse and to listen to, and all players are looking forward to the performance under MD Jeremy Willcock. Follow our day at the contest on our Twitter feed.
This will be the last contest for the band until next year's Area contest, but is certainly not the last of its performances of 2013. More concerts will be listed in our Engagements section shortly, including the first of our "Friends, Patrons and Sponsors" concerts and our many Christmas concerts. Keep an eye on the website to find out where to see the band in concert near you.
FOUR NEW PLAYERS JOIN
The band are pleased to announce that all seats are now filled, having signed four new players over the last part of the Summer Season.
Matthew Jordan, Principal Cornet from St. Austell Youth Band, joins us on Front Row and has already completed several engagements with the band. The other three signings are all from one musical family - The Joy Family. Daughter Ellie has taken up the Flugel seat, while Mum Jayne will be playing 3rd Cornet and Dad Nigel helping out on trombone. We hope that all of our new players enjoy their time at Bugle, and know that their talent will help Bugle to continue to progress!

SUCCESS FOR BUGLE
Bugle Silver Band made their annual visit to the West of England Bandsmen's Festival (Bugle Band Contest) on Saturday 15th June, where they continued to challenge themselves by entering the First Section. The band gave fantastic performances of adjudicator Phillip Harper's "Kingdom of Dragons" and march, "Flying Eagle". Despite the very windy conditions on stage, the players and conductor Jeremy Willcock were delighted with the performance.
Phillip Harper awarded the band second place in both the March and the Test Piece, just behind Lanner and District (who have been promoted to the Championship Section for 2014). The band were all thrilled with the result, and are now very much looking forward to getting back to the bandroom to rehearse the Summer concert program. The band also received second place in the Deportment section, sporting their new uniforms and march cards.
