Jacky Smith

Tutti Cornet

Tutti Cornet

Previous Bands:
Lostwithiel Youth; St Blazey and District; Lostwithiel; Mount Charles; Kernow

Jacky started playing at Fowey School under the influences of teachers Goff Richards and the late Frank Moore.  She then started at St. Blazey under conductor Cecil Brewer and went on to Lostwithiel Youth with the great Mervyn Sweet.

Jacky then moved to Lostwithiel Silver and Mount Charles, and finally settled at Bugle playing alongside David Jane on the front row. After a spell on cornet, she moved to play the Tenor Horn, and is finally to date playing Repiano Cornet.

Both Jacky’s children, Emma and Michael, have played in local brass bands.  Emma is now concentrating on bringing up her two children, Clara and Harvey, and Michael is in the Royal Marines Band in Scotland.

Memorable banding moment:
When both of her children opened the Music For Youth Festival in the Royal Albert Hall, playing “Fanfare For The Common Man”.

Why Jacky likes playing in Bugle Silver Band:
“Band can be relaxing and enjoyable with good friends.
Bugle Band is like an extended family, and a bolt hole from my stressful but enjoyable daily work as a funeral director at Ken Newcombe’s”.
